Slipping Purl Stitches

Hi again!

I’m still working on designing a cable scarf for my Mom, and I’ve fallen in love with some cables in Barbara Walker’s A 2nd Treasury of Knitting Patterns. They’re all disc cables, called Banjo Cable, Dollar Cable and Seed Wishbone.

I’ve been practicing them quite a bit, and the directions on a couple of them are still confusing to me. I figured if anyone could set me straight, it would be you all.

Here’s where I’m confused:
(Wrong Side) K4, p1, sl2 wyif, p1, k4

The stitches being slipped are purls; they’ll be knitted in the next row. Should I slip them knitwise or purlwise? Looking at the photos in the book, and at my practice swatches, it seems that the purpose is to draw the work just a little snugger and help create a circle.

Any suggestions? I’m starting to gibber a little bit, driving DH right up the wall!

Thanks!

I slip as if to purl unless the pattern tells me otherwise.

OK then, that’s what I’ll do.

Thanks Ingrid!
