Slip stitch problem

I’ve only been knitting a few months and am doing a rabbit pattern from a teaching book. I’ve made it to the ears.

The pattern is slip 1 knitwise, then knit to end of row.

So, I cast on the stitches and slip the first stitch, but when I try to knit the second one, the first stitch kind of falls apart. I’m obviously doing something wrong. Any answers?

Thanks

I don’t know why that would be happening. I thought maybe you were using a backward loop cast on and that could fall apart, but I tried it and it didn’t when I did it.

Then I tried a long tail cast on. No problem.

You may need to keep a little tension on the stitch after you slip it as you are working the next stitch.

What kind of cast on are you using?

I’m using cable cast on. The book also teaches thumb cast on. Would using that instead fix it? (I don’t like that one much so I hardly use it…)

I tried it with a cable cast on and it is a little weird. What is it you call a thumb cast on? Is that loops made over your thumb and put on the needle? Or is that a form of long tail cast on where you begin the loops over your thumb? I actually do my long tail cast on that way most of the time.

Try another cast on and see if it is better.

When you knit the 2nd stitch, make sure you’re knitting into the loop, not between 2 sts like you did on the Cast on.

^I’m pretty sure I was knitting it right. I tried that, and it still didn’t work. Thanks though!

I tried a different one and it worked! Yay! Cable cast on was the most recent they taught, so I just assumed that’s the one they wanted. But nope. Anyway, I feel like a fool now for needing such a simple solution!

Thanks again

A fool? You should feel smart and proud that (a) you asked the right question and that (b) you figured out (with a little help from your friends) how to solve the problem.:cheering:

Yes, and now you know a different cast on!
