Slip 1 make 1?

the very first row of my new project says cast on 16 stitches and row 1 says to slip 1, make 1. after I slip 1, I now have 2 pieces of yarn between the needles, and am confused on how to make 1. any suggestions? Thanks!

You can take the working yarn and do a backward loop m1. What’s the pattern?

thanks! I’ll look up a video on how to do that… it’s for a gossamer shawl with ruffle by karabella yarns. is that what you mean by “what’s the pattern”? (this is my first project that is not a baby hat… can’t you tell?)

I meant what’s the name of the pattern, which you just answered. The backward loop inc is shown in the m1A video here at KH.
