Sleeves

I am making the New York Cardigan from strawberie blonde in a size medium. The pattern includes instructions for both short sleeves and three quarter sleeves. I want to make long sleeves that taper to the wrists, but I’m not sure of how to plan the decreases to make that happen. When do I start? How many stitches should I decrease? How often? What decrease technique would look the best? I will have 59 stitches on my needle at the start of the sleeve, and I’d prefer to knit them in the round. The pattern ends with the last four rows in a K1,P1 rib stitch for four rows.

Many thanks !!!

Here’s an online calculator that will figure it out for you:

Pretty design!

Decide what wrist measurement you would like before the ribbing. Then use your stitch gauge to figure out how many sts that translates to. Measure the length of sleeve you’d like from the underarm to the wrist before the ribbing and translate into number of rows using your row gauge.

Now you know how many sts you’ll need to decrease and how many rows you have to work those decreases. You may want to work them evenly along the length of the sleeve or you may want some decreases more frequently spaced in your forearm rather than your upper arm. It’s also possible to work some decreases just before the ribbing if you’d like a fuller sleeve.
It’s up to you!
