Hi all, I’ve been sewing up the seams of my cardigan beginning with the sleeves using mattress stitch and I’ve discovered that I’ve made the sleeves around 4cm too wide from the 31.5cm width they were meant to be. I was wondering how to rectify this? I have already seamed up one sleeve and a little bit of the second one. Would I undo the sleeves and seam them 4cm in? Or can you sew the knitting to modify the size. Thank you!
You could seam up the sleeve about 2cm in from each edge. It will give you a bit of bulk at the seam however. Really the best solution, considering the short length of the sleeve is to take both out and reknit them. Use the sleeve as it is now to calculate how many sts to cast on for the width that you want.
It’s lovely knitting and a pretty pattern. It should be as perfect as you can make it.
How would you seam it up from each edge as there is only one seam from the armpit… The other side by the shoulder has just been folded over… Thank you!
Fold the sleeve with right sides together and use a back stitch to seam.
In the video the back stitch is used at the shoulder seam edge. You’ll be joining rows several stitches from the edge but the same stitch pattern applies.
