Sleeve question

I need some help interepreting this pattern:

(after doing 2 1/2 of ribbing)…

“Starting with a knit row, cont in st st, inc one st at each end of next and every foll 6th row until there are…64 sts.”

So…do I do a knit row, then on the next row, increase 1 at the beginning and 1 at the end? (next row being a purl row?). And…which increase would be best for this?

Thanks!

I think it means that you continue in stockinette stitch with a knit row–and when they say the next and following 6th rows, them mean your increases are starting with the the next 6th row.

So you start your increases on the 7th row, 13th, 19th, etc., until you are up to 64 stitches.

The reason I think you wait until the 7th row is that increases are not usually started at the cuff–at least not that I’ve ever seen.

You can either just kfb in the first and last stitch or k1, m1. It’s up to you. The seaming will hide the kfb increases.

Edited for clarity.

Thanks Ingrid! I didnt understand why you would a) increase right after the cuff and b) why do it on a purl row…the things these people write in the interest of saving space!

You’re so right. Sometimes they give so much information it makes it confusing and sometimes it’s too cryptic. Bless the well-written pattern!
