Sleeve Increases while keeping in pattern

Hi everyone, I am currently working on a James C Brett JB751 Chunky Cardigan nice easy pattern to follow but I was wondering if you could help me with how to stay in pattern on the sleeve increases the pattern is ROW 1, K1, P2, K1 & Row 2, P1, K2, P1. Increases are 1 each end of the row on the 3rd and following 5th row ( I am doing the largest size) all strait forward I have done more difficult sleeves but this one looks untidy on the edge and not in pattern properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One way to improve the edges and make seaming easier is to make the increases one stitch in from the edges. For a row beginning k1, p2,k1 consider the initial k1 as your edge or selvedge stitch. Increase as a knit stitch so that you have k1,k1,p2,k1 where the bolded k1 is your edge stitch. For the next increase, work a purl stitch, k1,p1,k1,p2,k1 and on the following increase row, k1,p2,k1,p2,k1.
You can just see the increases for the left sleeve in the photo grow from the sleeve as you move from wrist to shoulder. They won’t initially be in the full pattern but the pattern will resume as more sts are added. Any untidiness at the edges will be hidden in the seam but the stitches will stay in pattern for the body of the sleeve.
Do the same at the other edge, keep the increases one stitch in from the last stitch. It’s always easier to keep the end of row in pattern.

Good morning,

Thank you for your quick response I did think about doing that and now seeing it written down by someone else makes more sense again thank you.

I will let you know how I get on.

Do keep us up on how it’s going. Keeping in pattern can be a challenge no matter how easy or difficult the stitch pattern.
