Ok I am trying to knit:

But I am not understanding part of the pattern…
“Handles:
On the next RS row, k 11, cast off 20, k20, C/O 20, k 11. Next row, work across, casting 20 sts. back on where you cast them off in the previous row.”

  1. Do I cast off 20 st 2 times or 1? I read it as 2 and it makes sense as 2, but the legend says that C/O is cast on.
  2. How do I cast on Purl wise for starters (as it would be a purl row since it is in stockinette)?

Any and all help would be appreciated. I am lacking caffeine today and the brain doesn’t want to play nice!

Yes, you will cast off 20 stitches twice. Once for each handle. And as far as the purl cast-on, really it doesn’t matter because it is going to be felted, you won’t see it anyways. I’d just use a backward loop cast on.
