Hi there! I’m knitting a Snow Angels cable from Vogue Knitting and I’m confused about the SKP stitch. In the pattern, SKP falls on only 1 square, so is that the slipped stitch or is the preceding stitch the slipped stitch? Anyone know? Many thanks in advance!
SKP question
Hello
I can see a little of the written pattern on your photo, high must be the end of row 11
YO, K8, SKP
The square shows the slip stitch and there will be a remaining stitch on your needle (not how on the chart) for the knit stitch.
The clue is the K8, these 8 are shown on the chart.
Another clue is the row before has 10 stitches across this section (after the centre purl), so you need to use up 10. 8 are knit, the 9th stitch is slipped and the 10th is knit then the 9th passed over.
On completion of this section there will still be 10 stitches as the YO adds 1.
It’s helpful to compare to the written instructions where they are also given.
Hope this helps
One of my favorite cables.
Think of the squares of the chart as representing operations rather than individual stitches. For row 5 for example you have 4 purls, a k2tog, 5 knits, a yo, purl, yo, 5 knits then a ssk, p3. The yarn overs (which don’t use up a stitch) will balance out the decreases (which take 2 stitches) as you can see in the next chart row.
Thank you so very much, Creations! Very helpful and very kind of you.
salmonmac! You’ve come to my rescue twice now - thank you so very much! I really appreciate your generosity of spirit!
Delighted to be able to help with this lovely cable. Thank you for the source information which is inspiring
You say that the SKP only falls on 1 square in the model. This suggests that the SKP is used to make a decrease on a single stitch (and not two, as in other types of decreases). The “1 square” you mention could simply be a way of describing the stitch on which the decrease takes place in the diagram or pattern grid.
