I am a 40 bust…
What size would I make this? I would usually go with a L…but I don’t know if it should be somewhat bigger…or overly big?
Personally, based on the looseness of the stitch patt, I’d probably opt for the S/M. There’ll be quite a bit of ease given the sz of the ndls and the 48" (L/XL) would have 8" of ease (which is considered very loose) before any stretching. Best to ignore how the szs are named (S, M, L, etc) and just work with the finished numbers. When you work your gauge swatch, see how loose the fabric is and how much stretch you find and then multiple that out for the full width. (Caveat: If you tend to knit tight then the middle sz would work. Or if you want it to be over-sized, even if you don’t knit tight, the mid sz would be the choice.)

I am thinking the same thing…the S/M would be good…but I don’t know cause of the size it starts at. Usually a small is a good deal smaller than that!
It’s supposed to be loose, the finished bust on the s/m is 42", which should fit you fine. It could be a little larger if you used size 10½s instead of 10s. Larger needles are better if you’re going to use Homespun, btw, and even 11s wouldn’t be bad.

I might do it on 6.5 cause I have knitlites in that size, and I like to knit at the fiancees house while watching movies…
I love the way homespun looks and feels, but I hate the way it knits…it always bunches up…with my tension anyway…
I had started an afgan with it ages ago…and I feel if I stop a project and lose interest…I will likely never get back to it…so, I frogged it today…sigh…
It does tend to bunch up so you have to hold it loosely, and if you have needles larger than 6.5mm it wouldn’t hurt to use them.

Yep! Now I am debating whether I should make a L/XL or the next size up…how sad is that?
The thing is though, by using a larger needle, say a US 11, you can follow the pattern for the smaller size and it will come out larger. Since you knit tight, using 10½s will probably make it about the same size as given.
I have seen a few Ravelry goes at this one…and a lot of them talk about how it is a lot smaller than they though…I also wonder if part of the chest measurement is calculated off the neck edge.
The girl in the picture must be very small too…cause that bolero goes down to her waist, and a lot (not all) of the ones finished on Ravelry, look like they are actual bolero sized. I am tempted to do the 48" size and add 3" to the bottom…I like the one in the picture they show…but something fishy seems to be happening here…things aren’t adding up…
