I assume you’ve been ribbing up to this point. The idea of this row is to decrease yet keep the ribbing pattern even. So when it says to rib 2 together, for instance, work the two stitches together in whatever stitch will keep the ribbing intact.

Work however many for your size in ribbing
work 2 together maintaining the rib

(rib 4 [4:4:4:6], rib2tog) Do this 6 times

Then work 4 in ribbing.

Enough?

This sounds like a great idea, but how does it work in real life? She didn’t say what kind of ribbing she had, but let’s say it is 1X1. If you have k1, p1 ribbing going and work two tog anywhere you mess up the pattern one way or another. k1, p1, k2tog, the next one is a k so you have 2 knits next to each other. If you had purled it you would have 2 purls together. There may be some way, but I’m not aware of it.

I think this kind of decrease usually happens right at the end of the ribbing, where you are going to start doing some other stitch and it doesn’t show up much that you messed up the ribbing.

You’re absolutely right.

It could be that it’s the beginning of the ribbing, too.

i was working in 2x2 rib

In that case, do the best you can to similate the ribbing pattern.

K2, p2 will be a little easier. When you come to the 2 that need to be worked together if they are knits knit them if they are both purls purl them. I don’t think it will work out that you need to work k and p tog.

thankyou that is very helpful
