I’m having trouble with the sleeves of this gorgeous cardigan (part of a baby trouser suit). When increasing I’m not sure how to keep the pattern going as the stitches forming the pattern should be in a different place in the rows and I’m not expert enough to work out which stitch goes where! Can someone help me?
That’s a very sweet pattern.
There are two ways to work these sleeves, maybe more. One is to write out the rows adding in the increased sts and accounting for them in the following rows.
The second way is to look at the pattern stitch and line up the next rows so that the pattern continues. It may help to use markers on the needle to keep the lace patterns aligned. Markers will also help with the lace motif after the plain stockinette rows. This is reading your knitting and it’s a very useful skill to develop.
Which size are you making, first, second, third…?
Hi. I’m sorry to bother you again. I’ve tried writing out the rows and looking at how to accommodate increasing stitches, but each row seems different in the st stand lace panel to start with. I’m also finding it impossible to work out by sight. I’ve looked online for a step by step instruction but feeling a bit confused. This might be too challenging a pattern for me but I want to try and get it right. Thank you.
The pattern for the first 16 rows takes the increases into account.
What size are you making? First, second, third?
What you can try is to place markers either side of the greater lace panel. This is defined by the first 16 rows. The increases every so many rows will occur at
the beginning of the row and at the end of row so they won’t affect the continuity of that lace panel. Since that’s true you can follow the repeat of the lace panel from row 1-16 with the counts before and after the lace the only thing that is changing.
