Sirdar pattern - how to rib and slip?

Hello,

I am starting to knit a cardigan for my sisters baby. It’s from a Sirdar pattern.
In Row 3 of the Left Front section it says to
"Rib and Slip seven stitchs onto a stitch holder, rib to end inc 1 stitch in the centre of the row for 1st 2nd 4th and 6th sizes only. 17 [19 22 25 28 31 34] sts."

I understand Rib, but I don’t know how to ‘rib and slip’, and I am unsure if I should be increasing one stitch in the middle of the row as the size I am knitting has 22 so I do not know if 1st, 2nd 3rd etc includes the 17 outside the brackets.

I hope that this makes sense to someone as I am a bit lost.

I’d appreciate some help!!

Thanks

When a pattern just says ‘rib x’ it means to work that many sts in the rib pattern. Here, work the sts then put them onto a holder. You don’t increase for your size as it’s the 3rd one; the size outside the brackets is size 1, 2-7 are the ones inside.

Thanks very much. It makes sense now!
