Sirdar Pattern 3025 Baby Hat

Good Morning,

Has anyone knitted the Sirdar Baby Hat Pattern #3025?

In the shape the crown it says:
First Row: Patt 4, patt 2tog, *(patt 1, patt 3tog, patt2, patt 2tog,
patt7, patt 2tog, rep from * to last 12 sts. blah

I do not understand what it means about Patt 4, patt 2tog,
*(patt1, patt 3 tog, and so on.

One of the rows reads this way:
(P1, K1, p4) one time, (p1, k1) 3 times *p4, k1, p1, k1, p4, (p1,k1)
3 times, rep from * to last 6 sts., p4, k1, p1, (k1,p4)

I know how to read the pattern except when it comes to
the shaping the crown.

Can any one help.

Rosemarie

Hello Rosemarie.

When the instructions say Patt N they want you to work that number of stitches in the established or prescribed pattern. When it says PattNtog use the latter stitch (of your knitting) if doing a Patt2tog and use the majority stitch type for a Patt3tog to determine if you should be doing a KNtog or a PNtog.

I hope that helps.

I hope I understand and will try it tonight.
Thank you.

Sometimes, perhaps because of different sizes, the designer doesn’t want to write out the decreases for each size. So instead of telling you to knit some number of sts then purl, then knit2tog, the pattern will be abbreviated as “pattern 4sts”. Continue the pattern you’ve been doing as much as you can while doing the decreases.
