Single cast on tips?

Hi all:

I just finished my first ever swatch (yay!) of garter stitch, and am looking back over it for errors to avoid next time…

I started out with single cast on, and notice that the starting edge is somewhat sloppy – the stitches along the very bottom sometimes “lean” one way, sometimes the other, and where they switch directions there is a loop sticking straight down in the middle.

I’ve read that single cast on can be tricky to start from. I was wondering what in particular I should be paying attention to in order to get a clean start from single cast on next time I want to use it?

              thanks much,

My advice is not to use single cast on for the very reasons you said.

Try out long tail/double cast on. It makes a much, much neater edge than single. Video here.
