Silver's Sock Tutorial Question

I really want to use this tutorial! The yarn I will be using will be sport weight. I want to make the socks for my husband, though.

SHould I alter the amount of of stitches? If so how many? Or should I use bigger size needles?

Thanks,
Jen

I don’t think so. My hubby tried on the socks that I knit for dd and they fit him too even though his feet are quite a bit bigger. Just follow the guidelines for the sport weight. The difference would be in how long you make them I think. You may want to pm Silver and ask her.

Unless his foot is unusually big around, the standard instructions for sport weight yarn should be just fine.

And if I wanted to make someone for someone with an unusually wide foot? The heel flap is half of the cast on, right? I guess I could figure out all the proportions…Hmmmmmm.

I’m in the process of using silver’s wonderful guide to make my first pair of socks. It’s really showed me that socks are easy and totally doable.

The sock that I’m making, however, is way way too wide for my foot. I double checked to make sure I’m following the directions perfectly, and it’s just coming out really wide and round. It looks like the picture though, so I think it’s normal.

I don’t think someone with a wide foot would have trouble fitting into the sock it makes.

I was concerned because I made a pair in worsted weight yarn for myself and they fit me quite well, but my dad (who insisted I make him a pair) has an injured and very large foot, so I know this same sock would not fit him.
