What does knitting/purling on the right side or left side mean?

Usually patterns have a right side and a wrong side. The right side is the one the world will see on a sweater, or the side that the pattern shows most on.
The knit side (the little v’s) in stockinette is the right side, the purl (bumpy) side is the wrong side.
