Sidar 3009

Has anyone done the border for Sidar 3009 it a bit confusing

Can you quote a line or two where you’re stuck? I’m sure someone will be able to help.

Front Border

I can see how it goes down the front of each side or the button holes

The button band begins near the top of the lace edging. There are pictures on ravelry which show the band more clearly than the pattern picture.
You can place markers in the fabric to give a guide as to where, and how many, stitches to pick up in each section.

Is there are particular aspect of the instruction you don’t understand?
What size are you making (first, second, third…?)

I think I am being a bit dim. If I pick the stitches at the top of the edges first I cannot see how you pick up and knit down the sides. As it seems to be working the top of the shoulders and neck only.

Ah, ok.
The confusion is the top of the edging.
It is top of edging, not top of cardigan front.

Find the right front of the cardigan (right as you would wear it), look where the lace edging is around the bottom of the right front. You won’t be making a buttonband along the laced/leafy/scalloped section, instead skip the edging and begin your pickup on the straight section (there is a little band of garter ridges and lace eyelets, start here). Pick up the number given for straight edge from here and up to the V shaping. Then the given number for the neck shaped edge, then the back, then the left shaped neck section then down the left front. Don’t go beyond the garter ridges and eyelet section, leave the very bottom scalloped edging free of buttonband.

If you click on the ravelry link, then on “projects” you can see on other’s projects how the band is placed. The photos there are much better than the main pattern pic. For example this one, be sure the click on the pic so it fully expands so you can see the whole image including the buttonband

Got you thanks so much understand now

You’re welcome. Enjoy finishing this lovely cardigan. It would be nice to see a pic when you’re finshed

The lowest picture on the pattern page shows the button bands more clearly than the one with the hat on top of the hem.
