Shoulder joining

[i]Aloha everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone has instructions for joining shoulder seams on a tank (or shell as they are sometimes called) I just finished knitting?
I’m new to this site and very pleased with it. I picked up knitting again after quite a bit of years of not knitting; can’t believe I’m so rusty at it.
I also just finished a scarf and found I should not have used a stockinette stitch because of the curling thing. Anyway, if someone could let me know about the shouler seams, big mahalo to you.
Thanks-Kanoe

It depends on whether you have cast off the shoulder stitches, or if they are still live stitches on your needle. If you still have live stitches on both the front and back shoulders, you can use either kitchener stitch or 3 needle bind off for the nicest finish. Otherwise a mattress stitch seam will do the trick. There are video demonstrations of all of these on this page, under the heading ‘Finishing’:

I took a look at Amy’s video on mattress stitch (the one that I linked above) and I believe she is showing how to do a vertical seam (ie. when seaming two pieces, side by side) and not how to seam two bound off edges. Here is another good link that shows finishing techniques, and specifically mentions shoulder seams:

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your help! :cheering:
