Hi,
I’ve been knitting for around a year, mainly raglan jumpers but now I’ve started a cardigan thats knit flat (https://www.novitaknits.com/en/novita-natura-oravala-cardigan) and I’m struggling to understand the shoulder bind off instructions for the back panel.
I’m knitting the medium size and after the armholes it says “After row 130, on every other row bind off 2x6 sts and 3x7 sts for the shoulders”
Does this mean on row 131 I would bind off 6 sts at each end of the row, then on row 132 bind off 7 sts at each end of the row?
Any help would be appreciated
Shoulder bind off help
Welcome to the forum!
Really stunning sweater and quite challenging colorwork.
Usually the pattern would stress at each end of the rows but since this is the back, we’ll assume that.
Bind off 6sts at the beginning of row 131 and again 6sts at the beginning of row 132. (It’s simplest to bind off at the beginning of a row rather than at the end of a row. The offset is unnoticeable.)
Repeat the bind off of 6sts on rows 133 and 134.
Bind off 7sts at the beginning of rows 135,136,137,138,139 and 140.
That’s 33sts bound off on each shoulder or 66sts bound off total. If there are stitch counts in the pattern that should check out.
This is a very nice bind off for shoulders if you want to smooth out the stairstep effect.
Just be sure to bind off loosely.
Thank you so much for the explanation, makes perfect sense now I’ll give this a go with the sloped bind off.
Yes its a lot of colour work, which is fine knitting in the round but has required a lot more patience knitting flat
It certainly is more exciting knitting colorwork flat but this is so spectacular, it’s worth the time and patience.
Lovely pattern, what a statement piece!
Looking forward to seeing your project.
