I finally finished the back and I am now shaping the armholes. I think I know what I am doing but I want to double check. It says
Keeping stitch pattern correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. That means on this row I cast off 3 sts work to the end and then on the next row cast off three stitches at the beginning and the work to the end, right?
I watched Amys video on sloped bind off. Is this where I do a sloped bind off? I don’t quite get where she says it should be used. If this is where I am to do a sloped bind off then am I to start it on the wrong side the row before I start to shape armholes? :??
Then it says-
Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 3 alt rows 61 sts(I started with 79 but the cast off brought it down to 73sts) This means to decrease one stitch at the beg and end of the next row and then the second row I dec one at the beg and end and then on the third row I dec one at the beg and end right? What does the alt rows mean?Do I dec for three rows then knit row 4,5 and 6 without decreasing. Then knit row 7,8 and 9 decreasing them one at beg and end? :??
Sloped bindoff is for when you are doing the shoulders. I wouldn’t do it at the armhole bindoffs.
Do I understand the decreasing correctly? Where it says dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows. then on foll 3 alt rows.
Alt rows means every other row. After the BO3 on rows 1 and 2, then dec each end on rows 3, 4, and 5 and also on rows 7, 9 and 11. That’s 12 sts decreased which will take you from 73 to 61, the number of sts you’re left with.

I have been keeping my first and last stitch in stocking stitch so it will be easier to sew(hopefully) and increasing one stitch in from the edge. And now that I am decreasing I just wondering if I should decrease one stitch in from the edge? Also, I am doing the argyle pattern so on some of my decreases the first stitch is a knit and the second is a purl. The pattern wants me to keep in pattern so I need to do a knit for the first stitch so can I K2og a purl and a knit stitch? Or is there something I am not remembering.
Do the decreases one stitch in the from the edge. If you’re doing the decreases one stitch in from the edge, I’d do the decrease according to whatever the third stitch in the row is supposed to be. Because you’re knitting the first (the edge) stitch, and essentially taking away the second stitch by decreasing, if the third stitch is supposed to be a purl I’d do a P2tog and if it is supposed to be a knit I’d do a K2tog.
ETA: Do the same kind of idea for the other edge decreases. Work until 3 stitches remain, do your decrease according to what type of stitch that next stitch is to be, then K1 to finish off your row.
Man, you are super fast!
You make so much sense I don’t know why I did not think of it. Oh wait, I know why I didn’t think of it. I am just like a new knitter again since I can’t remember too much from years gone by. :teehee:
I am now shaping the right shoulder. It says keeping stitch pattern correct, pattern 20sts and turn. Work each side of neck separately.
(ws) cast off 4 sts at beg of row, 6sts at beg of foll row, and 3 sts at beg of next row. Cast off rem sts.
Shape left shoulder: with rs facing, rejoin yarn and cast off centre 21 sts. cont in pattern to end of row. Work 1 row without shaping. Work left shoulder to match, reversing shapings.
So maybe for now I will just ask you if I am suppose to k20sts and turn my work as if I am going to knit back on the wrong side. Now I have the wrong side facing me and the 20 sts are on my left needle and the working yarn is on the left needle. Am I suppose to CO 4sts at the beginning of the 20sts on the left needle even though my yarn is on my left? And if it is a purl, then purl it and Knit it if it is a Knit or is it better to co all in knit? After I cast off 4 sts then pattern to the end of the row. On the second row CO 6sts and pattern to the end. And on the 3rd row co 3sts at the beginning and pattern to the end. It says co rem sts. I read somewhere, I think it was ingrid telling someone to leave sts on the needle and don’t co rem sts so you can do a three needle bind off. Is this where I do this. Or is it something else she was talking about. Also remember I was asking you about the sloped bind off. Is this where I should do it and exactly where should I start. I am not to sure how this sloped bind off works because I dont understand if it is a lot of bind off in a row that she uses it or when. After you explain this to me I will ask you about the left shoulder. thanks
