Shortening a sleeve -- how do I deal with number of stitches please?

Hello all. Me again with yet another thrilling question about this same baby jacket: http://www.discontinuedbrandnameyarn.com/shop/download/cocoon-design-6.pdf

I want to make the sleeves on the short and loose side, so that it’s not a struggle to get the arms in and so that the baby can reach its hand to its mouth if it wants. I’m thinking half way between the elbow and the wrist.

This sleeve is knit from the cuff though. Normally starting with 35 stitches, ending at 49 stitches before shaping. I was thinking that instead I would start with 43 stitches which is the first, midway increase point.

Thoughts?

Many thanks! Again!

Sure, 41-43sts will work and give a plenty wide enough sleeve.

Work has kept me from starting the sleeves but I hope to today – thanks!
