I was wondering if you could help me understand the gusset with using two at a time socks with 1 long circular needle? The link to the pattern is here https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/short-stroke-socks
It is a paid for pattern.
It says this :Pick up and knit 15 sts along the heel flap, then knit 9 sts of the top of the heel flap, this will be Needle #1.With the new needle # 2 knit another 9 sts of the heel flap and with the same needle pick up and knit 15 sts making sure not to leave any gaps. Now you have 78 sts on all 3 needles? -This got me confused with the numbers of the needles.
you now at the beginning of the front part of the sock and the rest of the sock will be knitted with c2 yarn (speckled).
Thanks.
You’re going to be changing the number of sts and the arrangement of sts on your needles. There’ll be 3 needles with sts.
The first needle is 15 new picked up sts along the side of the heel flap plus 9sts of the end of the heel flap.
Needle 2 is the other 9sts of the end of the heel flap plus 15 new picked up sts from the other side of the heel flap.
Needle 3 is the rest of the sts (30sts) that are the instep or front of the foot portion of the sock.
If this doesn’t help, maybe I can try to draw a diagram.
Hi salmonmac. Thanks for the help.I was just wondering this one thing how can there be 3 needles when I am using just one long circular needle for the socks?
It is described as though they have you working on dpns and not circular. So then needle three would be the other half of your stitches that are sitting on the other side of the circular? Not getting worked just telling you what your total for that sock should be.
Shout out and kudos to you for using just one circular needle to do two at a time. I’ve only tried it on two circulars before and it was a trying experience at the time
Check the beginning of the pattern. They will usually tell you how to distribute the sts on dpns. If not at the very beginning then maybe before the heel flap is knit. It’s possible that you converted to a circular or to magic loop which is fine. You’ll just find this easier to continue if you place markers in place of where the dpns would divide the sts.
