short stroke sock toe questions

I am using magic loop method for these socks.I am having trouble understanding on the toe part of the socks where it says this:
Rnd 1 on needle 3 :k1,ssk.knit to last 3 st,k2tog,k1.
Needle 1 -k1,ssk,knit the rest on needle 2.
Needle 3knit till 3 st remain,k2tog,k1.
Now you have 56 sts on 3 needles.

How would a person do the needle 3 two times at the beginnning and end?

How many sts do you have on each needle? (Since you’re working magic loop you may not actually have 3 needles but do you have the sts sectioned off with markers as if there were 3 needles?)

It may be that the directions should be:
Rnd 1 on needle 3 :k1,ssk.knit to last 3 st,k2tog,k1.
Needle 1 k1,ssk,knit to the end of needle 1
Needle 2 knit till 3 st remain,k2tog,k1.
