Short rows for shoulder shaping

Hello

I am working on a V-neck vest and for the shoulder shaping bind off is used, but it doesn’t look very nice (could just be the way I knit!! ).

Can I use short rows instead? Andh how would I change the instructions to use short rows instead?

Here are the instructions:

shoulder shaping BACK:

Row 1: bind off 6 sts, knit across: {57} sts.

Row 2: bind off 6 sts in pattern, purl across: {51}

Rows 3 & 4: bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, work across: {39} sts.

Rows 5 & 6: bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, work across: {27} sts.

shoulder shaping FRONT:

Row 1: bind off 6 sts at armhole edge, knit across; with second yarn knit across.

Row 2: bind off 6 sts in pattern at armhole edge, purl across to within 3 sts of neck edge, K3; w/second yarn, K3, purl across {15} sts each side.

Row 3: bind off 6 sts at armhole edge, knit across; w/second yarn, knit across.

Row 4: bind off 6 sts at armhole edge, purl across to w/in 3 sts of neck edge, K3; w/second yarn, K3, purl across: {9} sts each side.

Row 5: bind off 9 sts; w/second yarn, knit across.

Row 6: bind off 6 sts, K2: 3 sts

Thank you for any suggestions!! :frog:

When you do short row shaping for shoulders, you basically knit or purl all the stitches except for the ones you are supposed to bind off. So if your row has you binding off six at the beginning of the row, you work the previous row up to where the last six stitches are, wrap and turn, work back to the last six stitches, wrap and turn. Then you would work to 12 stitches from the end, wrap and turn, etc.

After all the rows are completed, you work one row across, picking up the wraps.

For the front, you do the same thing, except you’d do the neck decreases as normal, work to six st from the end, wrap and turn, work back.

Thank you very much…I am going to give it a try!!
