Short Row Shaping

Hello there, I am at the part that says to do this short row shaping which I do understand up until this.

It says P to last 6 sts, wrap and turn. Move last unworked sts to right hand needle. I have 44 sts on the needle so does that mean that once I turn at the last 6 stitches I will put the balance of 38 stitches on the right hand needle, is that correct? It then says to break the yarn. If I do this the yarn is 6 stitches from the end, is that correct? I’ve had a lot of errors in this pattern and just wanted to be sure. Thanks in advance

You should have 38 sts on the R needle before you turn. Then wrap and turn the next st (look at the short row video on Advanced Techniques page). The instructions are a little confusing, do you have a link to the pattern or at least a picture?

It is the same pattern you guys have been helping with. The Piccolo Sweater in the Doggie Knits book by Corrine Niessner. Here is the whole section.

RS K to last 3 sts, wrap and turn, p to last 3 sts, wrap and turn, k to last 6 sts, wrap and turn, p to last 6 sts, wrap and turn. Move last unworked sts to right hand needle. Break yarn

Okay, that needs to be broken down like this -

RS K to last 3 sts, wrap and turn,
WS p to last 3 sts, wrap and turn,
RS k to last 6 sts, wrap and turn,
WS p to last 6 sts, wrap and turn.
Move last unworked sts to right hand needle. Break yarn

Put all the sts on one needle, whether it’s the R or L won’t matter until you pick it up again. Cut the yarn leaving a tail to weave in later, then go on to the next instruction.

I have a dog sweater that the collar is a different color than the body. I have to sew it from the top of the collar to the bottom of the body. Do you suggest that I use the matching color for the collar and then break off and use the other color for the body?

Whichever you think will look better, the seam should be hidden so what color you use probably won’t show.
