Short row hood question

Hello
I have a hooded sweater pattern but want to modify the hood. The pattern has instructions for the pick up and increases needed which I will follow, from there the pattern has a basic rectangle knitted flat, folded and seamed, and I am going to change it to a short row shaped hood with centre panel.

I have used this tutorial for understanding how the short row 3 panel hood shaping works

But the result is a very long/deep hood which I am not keen on.

I have used this tutorial which explains the measurements involved and, in particular, mentions the very deep hood obtained with working every stitch (in the outer shaped sections) as a short row W&T (and how to calculate the size/height with gauge) and offers an alternative method of working every other stitch as W&T, reducing the row count of the first set of short rows by half and therefore making a less deep hood but it still calculating to get the correct height (in the Measurements section)

The part I am stuck on is knowing what to do with the second set of short rows. It doesn’t mention if only the first set should be worked on every other stitch and the second set should still be worked over every stitch (making lots of rows, would this make the top of the hood somehow too big?), or if the second set should also be worked on every other stitch (making fewer rows, would this make the top of the hood somehow too short?).

The second tutorial is incredibly helpful with giving standard height of a hood for different ages and sizes and also explains the initial increases, the effect of gauge and so on when calculating the first set of short rows and where to begin them. But it doesn’t mention anything about calculation of the second set.

It seems to me that you need to mirror the short rows from set 1 with those in set 2. So if you work every other row short rows in set 1 then you should do the same for set 2. That way the center diagonal line of short row turns will match up.
I like these hoods with the center panel and of course it leaves space for lace or cables or any design you would like.

Ah, thank you. It makes sense now you’ve said the centre diagonal will match up.
It’s something very new to me.
I have been writing notes for my pattern modifications in advance to try to get the size right. The hood is a good way off yet.

In the original pattern, the rectangular hood, its worked to 32 cm height. Is this likely to 27 cm as a standard size (detailed on that second link as standard small adult hood height) plus additional 5 cm each side to account for the ‘flat’ section bridging over the head after seaming?
