I am knitting the Shawl Collared Cowl by Alana Dakos (Never Not Knitting) and am a little confused as to this part of the pattern, which is short-row shaping of the collar. This is the pattern:
Work Short Row Shaping Rows as follows:
(RS) K to 1 st before marker, w&t, k to end. Turn, k to 2 sts before marker, w&t, k to end.
This I understand, but I get confused when I go to her pattern notes and get this explanation for the w&t (wrap and turn):
(RS) Work in pattern to the st to be wrapped, move yarn to front of work and slip next st knitwise. Bring yarn to back and turn work to the other side. With WS facing, slip same st back to the right hand needle purlwise. Proceed to work across row in pattern.
(WS) Work in pattern to the st to be wrapped, move yarn to the back of the work and slip next st purlwise. Bring yarn to front and turn work to other side. With RS facing, slip same st back to right hand needle purlwise. Proceed to work across row in pattern.
Can someone explain this to me please? I’m confused as to the RS & WS instructions and how many rows this constitutes. Help! Thank you in advance!
Short Row Help Please!
The pattern notes are just giving step by step instructions for the wrap and turn. If you understand the pattern directions in the short form, then don’t worry about the notes. They are giving you more detail. There’s a video on this site, Free Videos, Advanced Tech, Short Rows if you’d like to see a demo.
These directions are actually for 4 (partial) rows:
(RS) K to 1 st before marker, w&t,
(WS) k to end. Turn,
(RS) k to 2 sts before marker, w&t,
(WS)k to end.
Thank you!
