Shaping raglan armholes. Confusing instructions

Hi all, I’d like some help on this part of the pattern. I’m making a M size sweater but the number of stitches don’t seem to add up with the instructions.

I’m working on the back piece

First 2 rows are just knit then purl repeated. End on purl.

So the instructions I’m stumped at is at 94 stitches after cast off edges. (2 at beg of each row) for raglan armholes.

Then:
R3. k1,k2tog,knit to last 3 sts, sl 1, k1, psso, k1.

R4. P1, p2tog tbl, purl to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1.

R5. As row 3.

R.6 purl.

Rep last 4 rows (0-2-(4).4 times for M. (80-76-(72) sts.
I’m assuming I repeat from R3-R6? Also the math doesn’t add up if I’m repeating the rows decreasing 6 sts every repeat. I end up getting 70 sts instead of 72.

I need help on the next part as well please.
The pattern says:
All sizes (76-80-76)sts.(76 for M)
Dec one st (as before) at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until (26-28-30) (30 for M).

Work 1 row then cast off loosely.

What is the “next row” I need to knit? Does it mean on from R3 after doing the repeats?

I’m usually good with patterns but this part has me stumped with the numbering and what rows I’m supposed to knit.

Thank you!

Hello
It might help to know which pattern you’re working, do you have a link to it? Or name/number and publisher/designer?

What was the stitch count before the bind off for armholes? And what did it say for the bind offs for the armholes?
You’re right it doesn’t seem to add up so there may be something in the earlier bit of the pattern which led to the stitches not adding up.

Your second question, the “next row” part, is this a direct follow on from what comes above? Because the stitch count is different here, 76 rather than 72, or is this somewhere else in the pattern?

Patons Mens Pullover 0016. I’ve had another look at it and realised I ended up following the wrong size so the numbers were out.

Any idea for the next part of the pattern where it says “dec one st ( as before)” I’m still unsure about that bit. Does that mean I do a decrease with the first and last knit stitches in row 3 and 5?

I think the numbers you have circled are incorrect in the repeat section, I mean you have accidentally circled the wrong one.
94 sts
Sizes s m l xl and xxl only- so for m you need second number
Rep last 4 rows 2 times. 76 sts

The 4 rows are done a total of 3 times because you do them once then repeat them twice, total 3.
6 sts decreased per 4 rows, 6 × 3 =,18
94 - 18 = 76

Then all sizes so it’s the 3rd number for m
76 sts
Dec 1 st each end of next then every following alternate row until 30 sts.

Call “next row” row 1 and decrease on row 1, 3, 5, 7 and so on, each right side row. Work the decrease as you did in “row 3”.
The wrong side rows just purl as you did in “row 6” no decrease.

Does it make sense?
