Shaping raglan armhole

Hello everyone. I am new to knitting. I have been crocheting for many years and have recently started knitting and I’m addicted. I’m working on a sweater for my daughter and I am a little confused about the next instruction.
I’ve already casted off 4 sts on each side and decreased 1 st at end of next 6 rows. I have 47 sts left (which is what pattern said I would)
The next instruction is:
Next 16 Rows: dec 1 st each end of next and every foll alt row 8 times altogether (31 sts)
Can anyone please explain what this means.
Thanks a million!

Hi Deli and welcome!
You have 47sts on the needle now. Decrease at each end of the needle every other row. So that’s 2sts decreased each decrease row. If you call the next row, row 1 then that’s decreases each end of rows 1,3,5,7,9,11,13, and 15 leaving you with 31sts

Thank you salmonmac! That was a big help!!!
Now Im going to attempt the neck. :flushed:
