I need to shape the front of my sweater: I have 69 stitches remaining after working same as back. To shape neck the instructions say:" work 23 sts, [work 2tog, work 1st]7times, work 2tog, work 3 sts, sl last 21 sts just worked onto a st holder, work to the end. Continue on these 20 sts as follows: continue to dec at raglan edge (1st and 2 sts alternately on right side rows) as before at same time dec 1 st at neck edge on the next 3 rows, then on every following alt row until 7 stitches remain. {has some instructions for larger sizes} then: ALL SIZES: Dec 1 st at raglan edge only on the following 2 alt rows. 3 sts
Dec 1 st at neck edge only on the following alt row cast off with right side work facing, rejoin yarn to remaining 20 sts at neck edge. ". I think I am just confusing myself, but is this working with one ball of yarn and one side of the front neck. With the middle on a stitch holder? I am not clear
Yes, you have the sts from one shoulder on the needle still on the righthand needle, the center sts on a holder and you’re working the other shoulder with the same ball of yarn.
When you finish this shoulder, you’ll cut the yarn and attach a new end of yarn to the first shoulder and work that.
It may help to write this out line by line rather than in paragraph form or to make a diagram with the decreases for the neck and armhole noted.
So I work the first 23 stitches onto my right needle with a decrease of 7 stitches, then work middle stitches with a decrease of 4. After finishing that I slip those 19 stitches to a holder leaving the first 16 stitches on right needle, then continue with the remaining to the end not decreasing the left 23 yet. Then I decrease on the back side the same as I did above for the right side, but this time stopping before the holder and turning and work back and forth till 7 sts remain, bind off, then reattach to stitches I have been holding on my working needle. All the while I decrease on the raglan side too. Did I get it right?
You want to work the first 23 sts following your pattern stitch with no decreases. Then work the next 26sts following these instructions:
" [work 2tog, work 1st]7times, work 2tog, work 3 sts"
That’s give you 18sts on just this decrease section or 41sts total (23+18). Of this 41sts, slip the last 21 worked to a holder for the center sts. Leave the remaining 20 sts on the righthand needle. You’ll get to them later.
You should have 20sts on the lefthand needle. These are the “work to the end” stitches and the 20 right shoulder sts that you’ll use for the following directions to shape the neck.
There likely follows some directions to work the left shoulder shaping as the mirror image of the right shoulder. You could work the two shoulders at the same time with two ends of yarn if you wish ut sometimes it’s just too much going on at once and it’s easier to do one at a time.
Thank you!!! So much !!! Got it and it is nicely shaped!!! Never read instructions quite like that and I will remember it now for a long time!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:
