Shaping front neck of dolls jumper

HI Iam knitting a dolls jumper and knittef the back and both sleeves and have got to the front where you put 5 central stitches onto a spare needle and work one side first uo ti the shoulders. It tjen says put the 5 central stitches
on a spare needle, rejoin appeopiate yarn to tje remaining stitches, knit to the ladt 3 stitches, k2tog, k 1 but means that side isn’t the same as the other.
I am presuming it means join the central 5 stitches to the remaining ones and finish as per instructions. Could it be that this side needs buttons or fasteners. Hope you can help!!

What is the name of your pattern and designer?

Usually the two shoulders are mirror images of each other. So if the decrease is at the neck edge on one shoulder it’s usually at the neck edge for the other shoulder.
Can you exactly quote the row or two that’s causing the problem?

Think I am getting there, have undone to where I got stuck and started again!.
I have decreased one side, then it says slip 5 stittces onto a spare needle, then rejoin yarn to do the ither side which i think i am doing. Presume to leave 5 on needle to pick up later
Then the neck border is where I’m stuck
It says knit up 8 st from L
side of neck, 5 from frint then 8 from right side. Knit up - does that mean pick uo the stitched that have been cast off. How to do that?

OK, that makes sense of the stitches for the center neck and shoulders. For the “knit up”, you’ll be picking up new sts mostly along the ends of rows on each shoulder.
Here’s a video for picking up or picking up and knitting also called knitting up (all similar).

(see especially after 4:00min)

This video is close to what you will be doing with the neckband only much larger than for a doll’s sweater.
