Shaping for sleeve

I’m knitting the little ridge cardie from the King Cole newborn book 2. Being a new knitter I need some help with understanding the instructions for sleeve shaping on the left front. I have done the first bit of shaping which is : Keeping patt correct and taking cast on stitches into patt, cast on 5 sts at beg of next and following 1 alt row. Then it says: cast on 6 sts at beg of foll 5 alt rows. However, if I do this it seems to me that I will be casting on at the other end of the row to the first set of 2 x 5 stitches I have already added. This doesn’t seem right as it would be at the middle part of the front. I hope this makes sense and isn’t a daft question!

Hello
No question is daft. If it helps you get the answer you need then it’s the perfect question.

Next and following alternative row
Call “next” row 1
Cast on row 1, and 3
Then for the following 5 alt rows
Cast on rows 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13

They are all on the same end as they are all odd rows.

I hope this helps.

Thanks very much for explaining it so clearly. That makes perfect sense. :slightly_smiling_face:
