I’m using a King Cole pattern from Newborn book 2 by Sue Batley-Kyle for the Little Ridge Cardie. My question is what is the difference between the instruction cast on stitches at beginning of next and following alternate rows and the instruction to cast on stitches at beginning of following alternate rows. Does the second instruction mean that you work a row before the cast on one? Hope that makes sense!

Welcome to KH!
To begin on the “next and following alternate rows” call the next row, row 1 and then cast on to rows 1,3,5,7 and so on.
To cast on stitches at the beginning of the “following alternate rows” is to call the next row, row 1 and cast on to rows 2,4,6,8 and so on.
Maybe one of these:
Thanks very much - it’s what I thought but great to have the confirmation.
