I’ve searched ‘shape shoulders’ but can’t see what I need to know.

It’s simple I know but I’m having a dumb moment. I need to cast off 45 stitches at beginning of next two rows. To stay in pattern the first row is a knit row the second is a purl row.
Do I cast off purlwise for the second row

Yes, cast off knit wise on the knit row and purl wise on the purl row. Then they will look the same on the right side, also they will be the same type of stitch for seaming which makes seaming more straight forward too.
