Hi I’m new to forum. I’m making a tank top and very confused by pattern directions.
I’m making a tank top.

Shape Neck: K22(23-24-24), join another hank of yarn and bind off center 21(25-25-28) sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, work 1 row even, then bind off 4 sts at each neck edge once. Dec 2 sts at each neck edge as in note on every other RS row 4 times – 10(11-12-12) sts each side. Work even until armholes measure 8(8-1/2-9-9-1/2)", end on WS.
I have worked both sides at once and work1 row even. I did a purl row even and now I I’m on RS ready to do the rest. On needle, I have 23 sts, center area bind off 25 sts and another 23 sts. I’ve been looking on the internet for a video of this because a visual is always helpful with no luck. Do I bind off the 4sts on right or left of 1st section? Please help. This was supposed
to be a stressless project.
Welcome to KH!
There’s no bind off yet on the first section, the first shoulder.
With the RS facing, knit across the first shoulder, drop the yarn and pick up the yarn for the second shoulder. Bind off the first 4sts. That’ll be at the neck edge.
When you turn to the WS you’ll purl across shoulder 2, drop the yarn, pick up the yarn for shoulder 1 and bind off the first 4 sts.
It’s done this way because you can really only bind off at the beginning of a row.
I will give this a try. After I bind off the 4 sts at the beginning of row the pattern then says to do 2st decrease.Do I do those in same areas I did bind offs?
Yes, all these bind offs and decreases are at the neck edge, the edge closest to the center bind off. You can place markers near this edge as a reminder.
The 2-stitch decrease recommended in the pattern notes makes it easier to work the decreases as opposed to the bind offs. You can knit across to near the neck, dec for shoulder one and then dec for shoulder two in the same row.
Thank you for your help. I finished the back of the top, so now on the the front.
Regards, Linda
