Shandeh's Spinning

Hi everyone! I haven’t checked in here in a long time, because I’ve been busy with the Oddball Blanket stuff, among other things.

I’ve been doing a lot of spinning for the past week, so I wanted to share some photos.

I finally finished spinning all the blue merino wool roving I won on eBay. Some of it was a bit overspun, but I was MOSTLY satisfied with it.

When it was all spun, I wound it on my skein winder, then got it wet, then hung it to set the spin on my doorknob, using my lazy kate as a weight.

After it dried, I twisted it into a pretty skein, and was VERY satisfied with the final result.

Today, I was so happy with my blue merino success, so I was motivated to spin some more. So, I pulled out some more roving I got on eBay. Some “confetti” wool. (I’ve got LOTS of that roving!)

After just an hour of spinning, I had a spool full of a pretty pastel single-ply.

Pretty! Are you going to ply the confetti, or leave it as a single?

I’m not sure what that is, but I  the name!! :teehee:

Lovely blue merino!
Is that confetti wool from Coppermoose? I’ve heard good things about it.

I’m planning on plying two spools together tomorrow to see how it looks plied. I’ll let you know…watch for more photos!

I’m not sure what that is, but I  the name!! :teehee:[/quote]
Kate! :teehee: A lazy kate is used to hold your spools of yarn when you ply them together to make a thicker yarn.

Very Good, Silver!!!
It IS from Copper Moose Productions!

I really like the confetti wool. It’s very easy to spin. My only problem is that the little flecks of color sometimes don’t stick with the wool very well. Maybe if I was a better spinner, it would be easier for me to let it “flow” more.

One more thing about the blue merino…

When Marvin (my hubby) came home from work today, I said, “Look at THIS!” and I showed him the yarn. He thought I had BOUGHT it at the yarn store!
:happydance: :cheering:

And here is another photo of the confetti wool I’m spinning.

I have two pounds of that roving.
(32 ounces should be enough for a sweater, shouldn’t it?) :teehee:

So pretty!

Kemp, you would LOVE spinning this stuff. Copper Moose has another pound (16 ounces, of course) of confetti wool available on eBay right now!

They also have some smaller lots available for lower prices. I REALLY like that seller. They are so good to work with.

I think I need a few more days of practice before I try to spin wiht something that nice!

If you would like, I would be happy to send you some small samples of different fibers to practice with.

Coppermoose is one of my very favorite suppliers! Probably 40% of my stash is from Coppermoose alone!

He does sell a lot on Ebay, but you can order anytime from the website… www.coppermoose.com I LOVE LOVE LOVE his Blue Faced Leicester and that’s also where I got the cashmere I showed in another thread.

They DO have wonderful stuff, don’t they?

OOOOHHH Beautiful! Love the blue color! Off to look at Coppermoose.

I forgot to tell you all that I will be doing a spinning demonstration this Saturday, March 31st from 11 AM til 4 PM at my cousin’s yarn store.

I can’t wait!

That’s so cool! I’m sure you’ll have a great time

Thanks Kemp!

I’m a little nervous, but excited.

OHH if I only we were going down this weekend instead of 2 weeks. Hope you have fun!

Thanks Holly!

That’s awesome, have fun! I’ve demo’ed at an elementary school for their “Colonial Day” twice now, and it’s so much fun! I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

Thanks Silver! I’m anxious, of course. I just keep reminding myself to “keep it simple stupid”, but new ideas keep jumping into my head. :teehee:
