I am wondering if anyone know of local sewing groups? If not i guess i will have to start one up myself. Anyone interested in sewing in this forum and want to chat about it sometime.
i want to learn to sew. i had ago as a child and made a like flair skirt, but would love to be able to sew propperly.
I’m also a quilter besides a knitter. My sewing machine has miles put on it for sure. I sew every week if not daily. My knitting is for times when I am away from my machine like doc appts, travel, in front of a movie on tv, sitting with friends etc.
Sewing is just as enjoyable as knitting. You will love it. I am experimenting with art dolls and painted muslin cloths right now, I am always doing something.
The only problem is your stash finances are shared between the two. Needles for machine, for hand sewing, thread, bobbins, machine, machine maintanance, rotary cutters or scissors for fabric only, scissors for paper, possible cutting mat, pins, patterns, books, etc. Sometimes I do coin toss to see which hobby I get something new in my stash. Fabric is just as wonderful to fondle and appreciate as a good skein of yarn is.
I’m just starting to sew after a long hiatus (home ec was quite a while ago and I apparently remember almost nothing! :teehee: ). I don’t know of any groups per se but I’m happy to chat if you don’t mind a beginners perspective!
I know what you mean also about sharing stash finances…thankfully, most of what I’ve gotten for sewing and some quilting was on great sale at JoAnn’s (they have a wonderful sale on now on sewing notions and fat quarters, interfacing, etc. FYI as well as 40% off off quilting and knitting and crochet books) so it wasn’t too bad and I got my sewing machine for a great deal on eBay!
Sewing was my first love. I taught myself and love to make clothing and costumes. I don’t have any clubs or anything around here any more but would love to chat about sewing any time. You can see some of things I’ve sewn here;
No but I would love to learn how. I did buy a sewing machine and thought I could “teach” myself…like I did with knitting…buy a book take a class at AC Moore and done…didn’t work out like that. Hopefully I can find someone or a local sewing machine shop that offers lessons. :sun:

I’m certainly game for chatting about sewing. (I’ve been making my clothes since the 60s.) Learning another crafting skill means it can complement others you already know. Such as sewing the lining for a knit or crocheted bag. Sewing also goes a long way to educate about garment construction (if you do apparel) and, IMO, that’s good to know as it pertains to making sweaters et al. Plus, you learn the differences between items made with fabric that is woven vs knit.

I want to learn to sew better myself. I own a machine and have just recently signed up for a sewing class at JoAnn Fabrics with my 2 teenage daughters so that we can sew together as well. I’m looking forward to it and will let you know how it goes.
I get addicted to fabrics…GRRRRRRR…I love fabrics. Just love it!! Whenever i am in a fabric store, i think i am in heaven.
Its better than yarn… I am interested in creating a sewing group in Canada but i cannot think of a place where all sewers have access to sewing machines, so we can all sew and socialize.
Any suggestions?
I did a lot of sewing years ago. Now I mostly make quilts or add machine embroidery on my grandchildren’s bought clothing. I knit daily but don’t sew as often anymore.
Yup, a sewing blog would be great!!! I’ve done some quilting and repairing (clothes etc) and throw pillows…but I would love to learn how to read patterns, then sewin them up!!!Right now I have “Raggedy Ann” patterns just sitting here…:teehee:
As you might guess from my name. I sew! I have been sewing since I was about 8 yrs old. That would be a long time. I sew broomstick skirts, kids hooded bath towels, heat packs and quite a few other things that I sell at Arts and Crafts shows. I used to belong to a couple of sewing web groups, but they have gone away. I still use patternreview.com. I haven’t really found any others.
Its nice to find other people who sew also.

ETA: oops, I misunderstood-was distracted by children! lol I love sewing! Try looking for a sewing group through your local fabric store. I know Hanckocks Fabrics here in my area has a sewing guild meeting group. Its too far for me, but it’s an idea, a place to start!
