On this page there are illustrations for seaming. If you are joining the cast on edge to the bind off edge, you can use the instructions on the page linked above for ‘joining shoulder seam’, even though it’s not a shoulder seam the same procedure applies. Also, I know that the illustration shows it using stockinette stitch, but with garter stitch you should still be able to see the row of ‘V’ shaped stitches and it should work the same way.
