Hi I’ve knitted a kids chunky cardigan and am struggling on attaching a garter stitch band to the front of the cardigan. Has anyone for any ideas.

If you can use mattress stitch or a similar seam, that’ll work. You don’t have a simple stockinette or garter edge on the sweater body but the concept is similar.
The Bickford seam might work as an alternative. I’ve used this and like it in some cases.
Even if you don’t have a selvage stitch on the front, this is a neat join. You would have to re-knit the band, of course.

Thank you I did try the matress stitch but it didn’t long to good. Will give the other stitch a try. It’s hard no having a better edge on the front side
