Sew stupid

anyone ever seen anything about sew quick sew easy and their tendency to pick on anyone who uses the term “stitch n bitch”?

Well…guess whose yahoo group got an infringement notice today and is due to be shut down in less than 48 hours?..

Apparently sew quick/sew easy has struck again–this time again yahoo users–they have notified yahoo that they intend to take action against anyone using the phrase “stitch n bitch” on their site (as part of their site) because they have registered/trademarked their forum “stitch & bitch cafe”. I was notified that I have 48 hours to remove the SUBTITLE “stitch n bitch” from my site or yahoo will shut me down. Yesteray the downtown atlanta SNB was shut down b/c they didn’t change their name and the North Georgia group has had to change their name to North Georgia Knitters. I have contacted the infringement department at Yahoo to make sure that they are aware that many groups are pursuing action againt sew quick/sew easy for bullying people using similar phrases.

Sooo…Southside Stitch n Bitch must go and I need a new name…any suggestions? I’m so upset…this is SEW STUPID!

I suppose Knit n Nag or Purl n Hurl aren’t all that appealing…
Isn’t Stitch n Bitch copyrighted somehow by the author of the books?

no b/c the term itself actually goes way beyond the books–Debbie Stroller (the author of Stitch n Bitch ad Stitch n Bitch Nation) is apparently getting involved–or at least several groups have contacted her about the issue.

If you’re interested in what’s happening, google the terms sew quick/sew easy copyright infringement…you’ll find PLENTY of information on a variety of forums, etc.

What is really stupid about this is all the groups that have been using the term “Stitch’n’Bitch” for YEARS… Long before the books…

I remember seeing SnB groups 10-15 years ago…

As someone on another knit board put it so eloquently…

Didn’t Sew Quick Sew Easy have their butts served on a platter a couple of years back when they tried to do this before?

Some people just don’t know when to SHUT THE HELL UP

Ahem…

Wow. I can’t believe that. I remember a Stitch 'n Bitch circle of quilters at a church a friend of mine went to more than 10 years ago - they were all older women. It was the first time I had heard the phrase but I got the impression it was old at the time. I can’t believe someone would try to copyright it. [And I’m bummed that it’s the Sew Quick/Sew Easy people - I love that book…]

I’m on the Houston Stitch n Bitch mailing list (through Yahoo) and they changed it to SnB for now. I don’t understand why they’re doing this–it’s just making their own company look bad.

I found an email on someone else’s site from Debbie Stoller about the situation, apparently people were emailing her asking for advice and she has her attorney involved.

My site’s address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SouthsideSNB/ so the problem isn’t my site name like it is for many people–for me–it’s that my byline said “Atlanta-Southside’s Stitch n Bitch Group”. I only had to change our byline but it’s affecting a lot of groups b/c not only has their names had to change to snb but if they had captions on pics, etc. that used the phrase–they had to remove all of that too.

Debbie Stoller emailed me back and was very kind–I was suprised she emailed me back so quickly about the problem! Kudos to her!

It really is frustrating and it is making sew quick/sew easy look like a bunch of jerks. Yes–the did get sued or something for this about a year ago–it’s all of a sudden–they’ve started back and they are targeting yahoo users. Debbie Stoller said that Yahoo isn’t investigating the claims–when SQSE emails them–they just send along the infringement notice (which makes me a little disappointed in yahoo…).

Why is it that some people think they own the world??? :verysad:

How 'bout Female Dogs with Yarn & Needles?

:roflhard: :roflhard: That works… altho Knit n Nag works for me too…

Our mod and group got an email from Debbie Stoller today, asking us to go along with Yahoo and change it until this all gets sorted out…

lol. Crab N stab! No?..hmm…How about Btches N Stitches? Then they couldnt say anything lol. OR what about Stitching and Btching? Or is that too close? I know not everyone is a b*tch…So I’m TRYING here.

Knit and fuss? Knit, frog and cuss? a stitch in time saves whine? Poop N loop? Gab…gosh, I’ll add more when I get the nerve again. I’m thinking HARD here…We can do better than Stitch N Bitch! Right? :oo:

Knit and Spit (Or you know what)
Stitch and Beotch (gettofied version)
Chicks that Knit
Knit and Sit with a Kit in a place that is Lit

we decided to stay with southsideSNB–I was running out of time and as long as I didn’t use the actual phrase it’s “legal”.

One of my group members said how about stitch n kvetch? LOL!

Our Stich and Bitch had to change to PDX_SNB but it’s still called Portland Stich and Bitch. WhatEVER! Some people just don’t have enough to do.

It really irritates me when people think they can copyright or have the rights to things like that.

There was a case recently in Greensboro, NC about a bar named Hemingway’s. The heirs of Ernest H want the man to change the name because they say it’s synonymous with the author. The owner said he named the bar after his dog. So they’re taking him to court. I hope the bar owner wins!

Hmm, it sorta looks like the battle is heating up!
