Several questions: lace, pills, pattern and quilt

Hi! I have several questions, figured I throw them into one topic.

  1. I have an antique pattern for a gorgeous lace doily. It calls for size 50 cotton crochet yarn and size 00 needles. If I used size 30, would it just turn out a bit larger? And if so, what size needles?

  2. What’s the best ways to get pills off a knit project? (My DS’s backpack made of Lion’s Jiffy Thick & Quick.)

  3. I want to knit and felt a bear that is as close as possible to Ty’s beanie bears. I’m thinking using a very light weight wool and ripping apart a “donor” bear to try and figure out a pattern because I’ve been looking for a pattern for a couple of years and haven’t found one really close. Any suggestions about any aspect of this would be really appreciated.

  4. My DS (the one who always challenges me with impossible sounding projects) now wants what basically amounts to a down-stuffed quilt. Do you think if I knit double the length in yarn that felts well, stuffed it and sewed it together, it could work?

  1. You can use a disposable razor to get pills off wool…but I’m not sure about synthetics…ah, the thick and quick…try it in a small inconspicous place first, and see how it goes.

  2. If you can’t find a pattern, then I think the best bet is to do what you are thinking!!!

  3. I like my blankies to be SOFT…and my experience with wool…Kyreyon, Lamb’s Pride and Lopi, is that the wool is NOT soft…Plus if you’d like to felt it, that would be a TON TON TON of yarn…check my yarnlandia blog…that bag that is covering my ds is about 5 or 6 skeins of Lopi, and it felted down to a fairly nice sized messenger bag. I’d just do a real quilt!!!..and I LOVE to knit…but, to answer your question…yeah…ANYTHING can be done. This is just choices tho…

the other ??'s…no clue.
