Serious help needed please!

Hello All,

I am very new to knitting and I am working on this pattern for a purse. The instructions read:

(I am skipping some of it…)
“At the same time, increase 1 st after the first stitch marker and before the second stitch marker on every RS until there are 48 sts (24 sts St st in the center). Increase 2 sts in the center on every sixth row once more (50 sts)”… etc…

I am confused? Do I increase 2 stitches in the center on every sixth row or just after I have completed creating 48 stitches? I don’t think this pattern will even have 12 full rows to begin with? Why does it say EVERY sixth row?

Also, when it says to work “four rows even” does that mean to just do the Stockinette Stitch back and forth?

Any advice will be much appreciated. I need all the help I can get!

Thanks,
Kelsey

It would help to have the instructions just before this to see how the other increases are set up - what else you’re doing ‘at the same time’. Also what are you making - do you have a link to the pattern? Work 4 rows even means to work in whatever the stitch pattern is without any more increases; you’re keeping the stitch number ‘even’ or the same at that point.

The pattern has me working a texture stitch for the first 12 and last 12 stitches of each row. the complete instructions for row one are:

Work row 1 of Texture Stitch patt over 12 sts, sm, inc 1, k11, m1, sm, work row 1 of texture stitch patt over 12 sts. continue to work first and last 12 sts in texture patt, keeping sts between markets in St st. At the same time, increase 1 st after the first stitch marker and before the second stitch marker on every RS until there are 48 sts (24 sts St st in the center). increase 2 sts in the center on every sixth row once more (50 sts). work four rows even. end on WS.

What I am confused about is that last part-- increase on every sixth row?

Thanks for your help

Increase between the markers until you have 48 sts total (or 24sts between the markers). Then work 5 rows even and increase 2sts in the center on row 6. “Every sixth row once” seems like a very clumsy way to say that. Don’t know why they word it that way.
