Selvage stitch

I am planning on making these fingerless gloves from knitpicks. They are worked flat but I hate seaming and prefer to knit them in the round.

The pattern says “These gloves are knit flat in a ribbed pattern and seamed up the side. An extra stitch (called a selvage stitch) is added to each side of the piece.”

Since I am knitting this round. I should eliminate two stitches…Right? So instead of casting on 47, I would be casting on 45?

Well looking on in the pattern I think I have answered my own question. It is knit in a K3P2 rib so it has to be a mult of 5. So I am casting on 45.

One of these days I will learn not to second guess myself.
