Selling pieces advice needed please!

hello!

I have been thinking about ways to sell things I have made but I am worried about selling something I haven’t designed from scratch. Is there a law, or maybe just knitting etiquette, concerning selling something you’ve made from a pattern in a book or off the web?

I was thinking that some patterns are very straight forward - a typical bobble hat or pair of gloves - and so maybe they wouldn’t needed the original designer to be cited, but patterns vary in the amount they seem “unique”, if you know what I mean.

If anyone has advice or experience in this sort of area, please reply!

If you want to sell something based on someone else’s pattern you need to get express written consent from the designer. Usually if you look on a pattern it will say it is for personal use and not for resale, but sometimes they will let you sell the FO with permission. IMHO it’s easier to design your own pattern, though, so you’re not stepping on anyone’s toes. If you do a search, there are a number of threads concerning selling work and copywrite laws.
