Indeed…will do just that …and won’t rip existing one unless I’m happy with ‘new swatch’.
To get a left lean work the k2tog. To get the right lean, ssk.
The neck edge would look like this …\ -------/…
…ssk------k2tog…
The neck edge is then framed by the k2tog at the right neck edge as you’re looking at the sweater and a ssk on the left neck edge.
That’s what your photo shows, the ssk at the left neck edge (blue line) as you face the sweater.
Very well explained. salmonmac. And I can see what you mean about those stitches that I picked up …yes not well enough spaced, even though I thought that I was spacing them evenly.
Off I go again!
I like to use markers to section off the halfway point and even to quarter a longer section. That way, I can be sure to pick up sts evenly along a neck or buttonband.
Your sts look even but are perhaps too close together? Sometimes you don’t pick up exactly the recommended stitch number but as long as you have a total that will work with the rib for the neck it’s probably ok, a multiple of 2 for 1x1 rib or a multiple of 4 for 2x2 rib for example.
This is going to be the finishing touch on a lovely sweater.
Hi! You’ve done a great job so far. I’d suggest Option A—rip back and decrease more rapidly to reduce bulk. Try decreasing every 1.5–2 cm until reaching around 61 sts.
Thank you smudge01 for your suggestion. I actually have finished both sleeves now having reduced the bulk. Just working on the neck now.
A long overdue update…hope the photos are displaying.
On the positive side, I’m delighted to have reached the finishing line about a month ago…thanks to all your helpful advice with the sleeve ‘puff’! It’s a nice cosy very lightweight jumper for winter. Colour is OK but I feel it would benefit from a bit of sparkle in the form of a brooch, maybe?
On the negative side: I compromised most of the puff by starting to decrease the width of the sleeve much higher up than stated on the pattern. However, I certainly felt that I needed to reduce the bulk in order to wear it under a jacket…so I’m happy with that decision.
I learned quite a lot from the project and discovered this warm welcoming family of knitters in the process.
Happy knitting to all.
Very pretty and very nicely done! It’s going to be lovely and light to wear.
The puff is gorgeous! It looks so neat and nicely done, it really gives a great style and elevation to the sweater!
I am always compromising between what i like the look of and what i will actually wear, having made several items that i will not wear (or wear once) i decided that i have to be realistic about my dressing style, which is what youve done here by modifying the sleeves. You’ve done it so well and made a more wearable sweater.
Maybe a future project is a jacket with wide sleeves (bat wing, kimono, puff) so you have something to wear over a puff sleeve sweater?
Thanks for sharing the pics, it’s great to see the end result.
So happy that you managed to finish this, after all your problems getting a sleeve that will work in real life. The puff is still quite distinct. Well done, you!
Thank you all for your kind comments and for saving me from abandoning the project at the sleeve hurdle!
