Hi, I’m new to this site. I knit a scarf in the round in seed stitch. I cast the stitches on (I don’t kinow what the method is called) but I do it like knitting and then pull the loop over the left needle and repeat. When I cast off I did not do it by the pattern. When I was done, the cast on side was ok but the cast off side was like a ridge. I dont’ khow how to do it so that both sides look at least kind of the same.
If I need to post a pic, I can as soon as I figure out how
It is hard to make the cast on and bind off match exactly with the standard methods. What I usually do is use a provisional cast on so after I’m done I bind off the cast on edge. In the video section under cast on there are a couple provisional cast ons. I prefer the crochet hook method.
You say “like a ridge”, but I am not sure what you mean with that so a picture would indeed be helpful.
If you start on a new project or are even willing to start over, the method Jan suggests is a good way to make both sides look the same. If you like to redo the bind of of this seed stitch scarf without having to knit the whole thing again you could try some different ways of binding off:
Knittinghelp - How to bind off
I am not sure which way would be most suited for seed stitch.
Keep in mind that the size of the needles also influences the bind off. And how much you pull at the yarn (very tight or very loose). To me, binding off really is a “trial and error”-thing
I’ve got a book with 50 ways to cast on or bind off and I am still unsure of the right way most of the time
Just try!
Good luck!
