I am working on a baby sweater. I knitted the first 10 rows (1") in seed stitch. I am now on the left front and need to knit the side border in seed stitch to match the bottom border. It says to place marker 6 stitches from end of RS row. Keeping these 6 sts in seed st until neck shaping. Work in St st until piece measures 6 ". The side border does not seem to match the bottom border no matter how I do it. k1, p1
p1, k1 next row. I reversed it to p1, k1 - k1, p1 next row and that does not match either. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
The first rows after the first 10, just look at the sts for those 6 sts, not the pattern. Knit over the purls and purl over the knits.
how do i know which are the knits and which are the purls?
The purls have bumps, the knits are smooth. Each stitch has two sides, on one side it’s a knit and on the other side it’s a purl. So you do the stitches as they face you…which means when you are holding the knitting in your left and are ready to start knitting again. Here’s a sample that shows what they look like. It’s ribbing, but it’ll be same with seed stitch… just closer together.
Jan’s picture is a good example of knit and purl stitches. However you’re not doing ribbing, so you make a knit stitch over the purl bumps and a purl stitch over the knit Vs for seed stitch.
