Hi, when working a seed stitch pattern with an odd number of stitches, and an decrease is called for, doesn’t that then throw off the next row? I guess my question is that if you are purling the knits and knitting the purls, when you decrease by making 2 stitches out of one, the next row will now not be in line, will it? I don’t even understand my own question, does anyone else know what I mean? Thanks!
When you make the decrease out of the next 2 stitches, do what the second stitch is.
So, if the 1st stitch is knit and the 2nd is purl then your decrease of the two should be a purl i.e. p2tog.
If your 1st stitch is purl and the 2nd knit then your decrease of the two should be a knit stitch i.e. k2tog.
Additionally the pattern likely has the decreases at the end of the row. This and the above should keep the pattern in check.
There was a question just the other day about this. Here is the LINK.
Thanks for the link, I posted that one also. Here is where my confusion lies, My seed stitch comes out beautifully, it looks great. I have an odd number in the row, and this pattern says to decrease one at the beg and end of the next row. So, the pattern says I should kpk every row. On the row I am to decrease the first stitch, rather than start with a knit, I have to start with a p2tog instead. So I did. But then my seed stitch somehow starts to lose the seed look and looks more like a rib stitch. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?? And thank you.
Just be sure to watch the third st in on the left hand needle. You want to make sure that whatever decrease you do, if that 3rd st is a knit, purl it. If that 3rd st is a purl, knit it. That way you’ll keep the seed st pattern going. More than likely, the edge st decrease will be hidden in a seam anyway.
okay thank you very much. My stitching is really great, it just seems like I have soooo much trouble figuring out how to read a pattern. I guess it will come with time. Thanks for your help!
