I am making a bag in seed stitch, and the pattern is a little confusing.
First, it says to increase one stitch at each edge of every other row 5 times. Does that mean I start the increases on row 1 or 2?
Second, what is the best method of increase in seed stitch? If I knit into the front and back of the first and last stitch on row one OR row two, it doesn’t come out looking like seed stitch until I am done with the increase rows and are actually working in seed stitch.
Any and all help will be appreciated! I’m desperate! :knitting:
Your first row is usually your RS. I would assume you are increasing 1 st on your RS row. I assume it would be a knit st you are increaing.
It is hard to tell w/o more information about your pattern.
Are the first several rows done in seed st. or does the seed st start later in subsequent rows?
So. . .if it is row 1 after cast-on. . .
kfb, p1, k1, p1, kfb
Then row 2 might be
p1, k1, p1, k1, p1
Then row three
kfb, p1, k1, p1, kfb and so on till you have done this kfb five times.
(of course this is an example since I don’t know how many sts you have)
You would actually end up with ten rows.
The pattern is seed stitch. And it only provides two rows.
First row K1, P1 all the way accross,
Second row: K the P, P the knit.
It specifies to work pattern in seed stitch, increasing one stitch at each edge of every other row 5 times. Continue in pattern stitchuntil piece measures 12 inches.
Thats the pattern in its entirety.
I tried to knit front and back of one stitch, but the piece didn’t come out in seed stitch until I was done with the increases and began just working in seed stitch.
So I started over, using the M1 method of increase. I had to fudge it a little on the edges (the row after the increase row would end up k2, p1, k1, p1, etc…then on the next increase row, I M1 pearl inbetween the K2 at the beginning and end).
Piece is coming out nicely now, but I still don’t know if I did it the best way. But at least it looks good, right?
